Description: An
introductory course to enable you to begin to be effective in teaching English
to speakers of other languages. Deals with issues, methodologies and skills in
language acquisition and teaching.
Learning Outcomes:
· Ability to write effective lesson plans
· Awareness of a variety of language teaching approaches
· Develop skills in various aspects of ESL teaching
· Begin collection of ESL teaching aids and activities
Course Format: Instruction
in language learning and teaching methodologies, demonstrations, discussion of
readings, class member presentations, and feedback on ESL site visits.

· File of ESL audio-visual teaching aids,
· Lesson plan, and Practice teach one segment.
· Research games for teaching/learning.
· Paper on the participant’s own teaching strategy and plan.
Th.M.: Greater analytical depth in
writing assignments. In addition, choose one:
· Practice teaching
· 150 extra pages from recommended readings and write a Reading Report
· 2 More site visits or 2 more text series evaluations.
Prerequisites: None required, though MB530 is recommended.
