MB525:  Worldview and Worldview Change  (4 units)

DESCRIPTION:

A study of the nature and functions of worldview and the dynamics of worldview change. This includes an analysis of the components of worldview (e.g. basic presuppositions, allegiances, values) and worldview categories (e.g. classification, person-group, space, time, causality, relationships).  Special attention is given to Christian transformational change in worldview, and to problems of syncretism and contextualization.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

• Understand the concept and contents of worldview from an anthropological perspective
• Understand the varieties of worldview abroad in the world
• Understand how to discover worldview themes and paradigms
• Understand how worldviews get changed
• Understand the importance for Christian mission of working in terms of worldview
• Understand the relationships between worldview, Christianity and contextualization
• Be able to develop an evangelistic approach based on worldview understandings

 

COURSE FORMAT: Classes include lectures, discussion, and  presentations by students.

• A 3750 to 5000 word research paper.
• Th.M. Students: A 6250 to 7500 word research paper.

 

RELATIONSHIP TO CURRICULUM:

• Elective for degrees in missiology.
• Required for MA in Theology with a concentration in Evangelism.
• Optional course to meet requirement in MA Theology in Ethics and Apologetics concentration.

 

PREREQUISITES: Completion of MB520.
