Former
TV Editor Lissa Eichenberger Jumps to New Career Path After Fuller
New York-native Lissa Eichenberger received an M.Div from Fuller Seminary on
June 14. She first came to Fuller in the fall of 1999, and over the past four
years she not only completed her studies but worked full-time at a local
television news station.
For the past 20 years, Eicherberger has worked in various areas of the
television business. “Before I followed God’s call to pursue a seminary
education, which will enable me to do his work as a pastor, I had been a
producer of investigative and long-form television news segments,” she says.
The demand of school work, however, required Eichenberger to take a less
demanding job in the newsroom, so for the past several years she worked as a
nightside assignment editor for KCAL-TV.
“Learning the foundations of Christian faith and a Christian worldview has been
a great gift to me as I have watched world events unfold through the lens of a
television news camera,” Eichenberger says. “News colleagues (in front of the
camera and behind the camera) have sought me out to ask me questions about what
the Bible says about this or that, or about how a ‘loving God’ could let ‘this’
happen to the humans he created. From the horror of what we now call ‘9-11’ to
the incredible explosion of the space shuttle, I have been able to share some of
what I learned at Fuller and some of what the Holy Spirit put into my heart with
my coworkers.”
After graduating from Fuller, Eichenberger plans to marry Josh Bradford, a news
and sports photographer in Portland, Maine, where she will study Clinical
Pastoral Education at the Maine Medical Center.
“I really feel called to some form of chaplaincy ministry and I am hoping the
Lord will reveal more to me about this calling as my internship unfolds,” she
says.
