School of Intercultural Studies Children at Risk Program Releases New Book

Understanding God’s Heart for Children: Toward a Biblical Framework is the theme and title of a book recently released by Fuller’s School of Intercultural on the topic of children at risk. Edited by School of Intercultural Studies Dean Doug McConnell; Jennifer Orona, the school’s Children at Risk publications coordinator; and Paul Stockley, child development worker in Oxford, England, this collection of essays shares insights and practical experiences from practitioners, theologians, and teachers around the world.

Understanding God’s Heart for Children delves into the theological foundation for ministry with children at risk by tracing the biblical narrative from Genesis to Revelation. It emphasizes seven key themes that demonstrate our responsibility to and with children. Each chapter examines one of these themes through a variety of lenses: biblical reflection, critical issues, practitioner’s response, a case study, and practical implications.

According to Patrick McDonald, Founder and Chief Executive of Viva Network, “Understanding God’s Heart for Children lays down the tenets of a revolutionary message. If we were to absorb what it states, our lives, our churches, our seminaries, and our communities would be very different. . . As would indeed our children.”

A joint effort of Fuller Theological Seminary and children’s outreach consortium Viva Network, the book is available at the Fuller Bookstore.
