FULLER SCHOOL OF PSYCHOLOGY TO CELEBRATE HART

Archibald D. Hart, author of more than twenty books and dean emeritus of Fuller Theological Seminary's School of Psychology, will be celebrated with a conference on Friday, September 28, "Healthy Psychological and Pastoral Ministry for the New Millennium."

Hart has done extensive research and writing on depression, stress, and anxiety. His most recent book is Unmasking Male Depression (Word Publishing, 2001). He is also studying depression in women and children.

"We are delighted to honor Arch Hart for his great contributions to the School of Psychology. Arch has expanded the field of pastoral psychology with his insightful research, prolific writing, and faithful teaching," says dean Winston Gooden. Hart is retiring after 27 years as a professor in the School of Psychology, which recently established a scholarship in his honor.

Speakers will include Gooden; Newton Malony, senior professor of psychology; Catherine Hart Weber and Sharon Hart Morris, daughters of Arch Hart; and John Ortberg, a teaching pastor at Willow Creek Community Church. Arch Hart's topic will be "Toward a Healthier, More Effective Ministry."

Workshops will focus on clergy self-care and social support, assessing effectiveness of religious professionals, sexuality and the church, and therapeutic intervention with clergy. Workshop leaders are all former students of Dr. Hart in the School of Psychology.

The conference at Fuller in Pasadena will open with registration at 8 a.m. and close with a banquet. For more information, phone the conference hotline: 626-396-6045.
