Library News

newNew Library Hours: Beginning Monday, January 5th, the Library will have new operating hours.  We will open from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.  We will be closed on Sunday.

newChange in Study Carrel Policy With the arrival of the winter quarter the library will be revising its study carrel policy.  Previously, patrons were permitted to leave library materials in study carrels for two days.  This will no longer be permitted.  Beginning January 5, 2009 patrons may no longer leave materials in study carrels overnight or for any extended period of time.  Any library materials left on tables or in study carrels will be removed, checked in, and re-shelved.

Christmas Closure: The library will be closing early at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec 12. and be closed, Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 through Sunday, Jan 4, 2009.  This three week closure is due to the construction of the Hubbard Library, see details below.

Interlibrary Loan during closure: The following are important changes in our Interlibrary Loan Policy for our Christmas closure:

  1. Only the electronic delivery component will work for the Interlibrary Loan system between 12/13/08 and 12/23/08.  No books or photocopied articles can be retrieved when the library is closed.
  2. While we will still continue to receive and process ILL requests between 12/13/08 and 12/23/08, the requests made during Christmas break (12/24/08 to 1/4/09) will only be processed beginning 1/5/09.
  3. Please return all ILL books that are due between 12/13/08 to 12/23/08 into the Library drop box outside of library.

Hubbard Library Construction: Construction on the David Allan Hubbard Library is expected to be completed in the summer of 2009.  The new section is scheduled to open January 5, 2009, filled to overflowing with all the staff, students, and materials from the existing building.  The existing building will be remodeled during the Spring of 2009.  Then the entire Hubbard Library, new and remodeled portions, will open in the summer of 2009.

The library will close early at 8:00 p.m. on December 12, and will remain closed December 13, 2008 through January 4, 2009.  During this closure books and other materials from the existing building will be moved to the new portion.  Databases and the online catalog will remain available from your home or office computers.

During the Winter and Spring quarters, we ask for your continued patience as students and faculty will not be able to browse the books in the main collection.  You'll fill out a paper request, and library staff will retrieve books from the main collection. Most reference books and bound periodicals will be in open stacks.

The south entrance to campus will remain closed during the project.  Noise from the construction will be intense at times. Construction work will take place mostly between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. faculty, staff, and students may want to schedule their use of the library accordingly.  The library will make every effort to accommodate research needs; however, there will be some planned closures, and perhaps some closures with short notice due to safety concerns.  Click here to learn more and see photos.

Named for past Fuller Theological Seminary president David Allan Hubbard, the building will greatly enhance the ability of the library to serve students, faculty and guests.  It will allow Fuller to more than double the collection of books and other media, augment essential archives, and offer the study space and technological capabilities the Fuller community desperately needs.  Most important, the Hubbard Library will respond to a changing world by documenting the history and movement of evangelical thought, with an emphasis on the voices of developing evangelical churches in the Two-Thirds World.

Accessible Archives is available as a trial database.  It includes about twenty full text 18th and 19th century newspapers, including several relating to abolition and African Americans.  Please go to the Trial Databases page for more information.
