Installation Service to Be Held for Marianne Meye Thompson

Marianne Meye Thompson will be installed into the George Eldon Ladd Chair of New Testament Tuesday, March 11, from 10:00 to 10:50 a.m. Thompson will speak on the topic "What Holds the Bible Together?" at the service, to be held at First Congregational Church, located next to Fuller’s Pasadena campus at the corner of Walnut Street and Los Robles Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.

Thompson, who joined the School of Theology faculty in 1985, has been instrumental in developing advanced level interdisciplinary courses that integrate biblical interpretation with other disciplines of the theological curriculum. She is author of A Commentary on Colossians and Philemon, The God of the Gospel of John, and The Promise of the Father, and co-author of Introducing the New Testament. She has also published numerous articles and reviews in scholarly journals.

An ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church (USA), Thompson is adept at communicating Christian biblical scholarship to a popular audience, and was featured on the PBS series Genesis. Her courses include New Testament 1 & 2, Exegetical Method and Practice, Greek Exegesis courses, Life of Jesus, Contemporary Quests of the Historical Jesus, and Johannine Theology.

Thompson succeeds Donald A. Hagner as the George Eldon Ladd Chair of New Testament. Hagner retired last year.
